Richard delivers consultancy and hands-on support in technology commercialisation, market and IP assessment, commercialisation management as well as training and mentoring in technology assessment and management.

Richard joined Oxentia in March 2018. He works with universities, companies and foundations worldwide to support the commercialisation of early stage technologies. He helps clients through assessment of commercial opportunities; due diligence; market and competitor analysis; technology scouting; stakeholder engagement; sourcing funding; software commercialisation and setting up commercial and social enterprises. Richard has worked with clients in the environmental, energy, water, agri-tech, heavy industry, software and higher-education sectors.

Before joining Oxentia, Richard worked for a scientific consultancy company providing services to the international upstream oil and gas sector. As part of this he worked with oil and gas majors, independent and national oil companies and speciality chemical companies in the USA, Brazil, Trinidad, the UK, Denmark, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Brunei and Australia. He managed a joint industry project to develop a software model to predict microbial growth in oil reservoirs. This was alongside operational projects and development and commercialisation of molecular DNA-based microbiological assays to detect and quantify microorganisms, working with both internal development teams and assessing external technology opportunities.

After completing his PhD, Richard worked on a post-doctoral follow-on-fund project as a proof of concept study to commercialise his PhD research. Richard is interested in the application of technology to solve problems in the water-food-energy nexus, sustainable business models and the earth microbiome. He was previously a member of the Energy Institute’s Microbiology Committee.
