Creating value from a multinational automotive company’s patent portfolio by out-licensing non-core IP

Our client identified a longlist of approximately 100 European patents from their existing portfolio, covering a broad range of areas. These patents are valid but not core to their main business and the client was looking to understand the opportunities for out-licensing this intellectual property (IP).

Oxentia worked on a risk-sharing basis and reviewed the portfolio of approximately 100 patents to understand the underlying technology and market applications. Oxentia then developed marketing collateral for the most promising innovations. After this, Oxentia identified and engaged with potential licensees before organising meetings with the client and potential licensees, to discuss the technology and potential license deals.

The client benefitted from an independent assessment of the patents in their portfolio that were not core to their underlying business. Oxentia identified the most promising innovations and setup meetings with potential licensing partners. From this work the client achieved a greater understanding of the market attractiveness of non-core IP in their portfolio.
